Yes, I followed the videos until step 2 because that's as far as I need to go.  When I try to update a plugin, the log on the bottom doesn't even show any cards being downloaded.  It just says updating from URL and then that error message pops up.  Do I need to put plugins into the plugin folder before I try anything?

As far as I can tell you are doing the steps right, but there may be something external to lackey interfering with the download.

- Check your firewall
- Check your router's firewall
- Try a different plugin (I suggest Rage :p)
- Uninstall Lackey and reinstall.
- Take a screenshot of the error, load it to photobucket (etc), post it here.

I would suggest trying the above, in that order.

And just to clarify the process:  when you use Autodownload, the first thing it does is download the updatelist file, then various text files (and just a couple of essential images) required to use the plugin.  The images come later.

Take it from me CHECK your router's firewall.

I don't know how much more of my firewall I should check.  My computer is allowing the program it just won't let download the plugins.

Ok, so I tried deleting the program and redownloading Lackey.  I tried to extract the file using WinRAR and then I got this message.  Could this be the problem?

That means your download was corrupted. Clear your internet cache and redownload.

Letting a program run is different than letting it make network connections. I suggest you temporarily completely turn off your firewall and see if it works. Then, you can incrementally add in more security.

And as mentioned, this includes your router as well as your computer's firewall.  Just in case it wasn't hammered home enough!

Looking at that screenshot, it appears he is logged on as a guest. Maybe guests don't have permissions on that system for network stuff.

pAuLiStErROX, it appears to me like one of three things are happening. #1: You still have something on your computer, gateway or router that is blocking Lackey from connecting to websites and downloading plugins. #2: Your ISP has for some insane, and probably very stupid, reason blocked the ports that lackey uses for its communications. or #3: You're missing some obvious step that none of us has caught yet which is causing it to fail for you.
I can't really help you with #1 but let's see if #2 might apply. I want you to visit this link in your web browser: http://www.angelfire.com/funky/magiclackey/medium/updatelist.txt
If all goes well you should see a page with a bunch of lines similiar to
magic 02-15-11
plugins/magic/plugininfo.txt http://www.angelfire.com/funky/magiclackey/plugininfo.txt 110298
plugins/magic/setlist.txt http://www.angelfire.com/funky/magiclackey/setlist.txt 159700

There should not be any advertisements or anything but the plain text document with the magic info.

If you're able to view the webpage ok then we can probly scratch #2 off the list. Now as to #3, here are the steps I personally take for getting a plugin.
A: I launch LackeyCCG.exe, I am on windows 7 64bit, I run it as an administrator to bypass all the silly user access control checks that Win7 has in place.
B: I go over to the preferences tab and the plugin sub-tab. There I find the plugin I want in the drop down list (list is above the right hand box that says Plugin Info ----).
C: I select a quality, most often I use the highest one available cause I like the pretty pictures.
D: I click on the "Update from URL:" button under AutoUpdate.
E: I wait for it to finish grabbing the files for that particular plugin.
F: I then close lackey and re-launch it and the plugin is selectable by browsing (next to the load plugin button).

Well, I tried everything guys.  I thank you all for the help but I guess it just doesn't want to work for me.  I guess I have to go on my search for another site to play CCGs.   :'(
