A new user, very interested in Lackey and looking for help.

Hi everyone,

I love Magic, I hate buying cards.  I have bought and sold my whole collection many times over and recently gave up on physical cards.  The introduction of mythic rare's was probably the point which I decided to give it up.  I do enjoy the Xbox arcade games though and played the hell out of those.  Through a forum I found out about lackey and since it has mac support (so amazing developers, thank you so much!) I downloaded it and have installed the plugin for magic. 

But, I am confused and would like some help setting up games and what not.

My obvious first question is: does lackey work with rules or is it like playing a friend in real life i.e., do we need to enforce the rules ourselves?
