Title: Magi Nation Duel plugin
Post by: InShaneee on May 03, 2010, 08:16:16 PM
After about two months, I've finally finished building a completely new Magi Nation plugin from scratch, and thanks to Trevor, it's now available through PluginFinder! A few new features:

- A format toggle to only play with the released sets, or only 2i produced sets, if you choose
- A listing of all the cards available for the Restricted tournament format
- Inclusion of all major official errata
- The unreleased set Traitor's Reach
- the GEngine fansets Elder's Legacy, Shadowfall, and Keeper's Quest
- Booster packs for all official sets (including Traitor's Reach), as well as the five Unlimited starter packs

To Do:
- Add the rest of the starter packs

You can find the official rules to the game here: http://www.lackeyccg.com/magination/OfficialRules.html (http://www.lackeyccg.com/magination/OfficialRules.html).

- Special thanks to joethemexican for pointing me to several TR cards I'd missed!

If anyone finds any mistakes, has any requests, or just has any questions about the plugin or the game, please let me know!

e: Since pluginfinder is down at the moment, you can get the update list manually from this address:

First of all, thanks for doing this!

I have just one main comment about the plugin, which is that there should be a numerical counter or dice (if this is possible) because it seems absurdly hard to track how much energy in pips when it gets up to high numbers.

Also, is Morag really energize: 2?

I actually had the same problem with the pips, but Lackey itself already has a solution built in! Just go to Preferences > Appearance, and check "Show card counters as numbers". Now, instead of pips, you get big, easy to read digits, which makes everything far simpler.

As to your second point, excellent catch! Morag is energize 7, and the plugin has been updated with that info.

Hey folks! Please update your plugin next time you play. As I've noted in the OP, I've added in booster packs for all the sets (including Traitor's Reach), as well as the Unlimited starter packs for the five original regions. Enjoy!

Hello. I have two questions :)
1.What is a restricted card list? Are those some kind of cards you cannot use?
2. I found two different lists (i think). Do you know witch of them is a valid one?

Thank you in advance for your help :)

At the end of Magi-Nation's life, there were two tournament formats. "Unlimited", where you could use any card ever printed, and "Restricted", a sort of 'directors cut' with only the creator's favorite cards from each region. For the Restricted format, you are only allowed to use the cards labeled as 'Restricted' in the plugin. I figured some people might enjoy it, it's an interesting twist on things.

The first link shows the PDF I used, which is straight from the company AFAIK. It shows the cards you CAN use in restricted, as opposed to the other, which shows the cards you CAN'T use.

Creators favorite cards? That sounds kinda wierd :)

Well, they were trying not to ban any cards like in M:tG, but they had also got some things in play they really didn't like. If you're curious, here's where they explain the rationale behind the decisions they made for Restricted:

You can find it in the Plugin Finder within the program itself. Go to Preferences > Select Plugin. If you don't see it in the list, try clicking Update Plugin List from URL.

I would just like to thank you InShanee for putting up Magination on here. I am excited to play it finally. I was wondering, not all of the TR cards are on Lackey. Is there any possible way to put up the rest of the cards on Lackey? ;D

I wasn't aware I'd missed any. Do you know what cards are missing specifically? If you have the card images, that would also help immensely.

It slipped my mind that this was the holidays, and that I might not have as much time as I usually do. But now, just in time for christmas, I've added all the cards you found that I've missed! Thank you again for pointing them out to me, and if you find any other omissions or mistakes, please let me know!

Everyone, please update your MagiNation plugin. Current version is 0.96.

Just a quick ping to say that I'm still alive, and just pushed out a teeny tiny update to fix a display error in "Umm...NO!".

so, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I just downloaded this and went to build a deck today at work (where there is no internet connection) and most cards didn't have their pictures, just text. do I need a newer version of the plugin or is this just how it is? Thanks!

When you download the plugin, you don't automatically get all the card images. There's two ways to get them:

1. If you've got an internet connection, then Lackey will download images automatically one at a time as you look at cards in the deck editor.

2. Again, if you've got an internet connection, you can go to Preferences, and click "Download all missing card images". This will take a while, but will get you all the card images in one go.

I'd recommend the second one, since you can just do that once and know you have everything.

There is another way to get the images to computers that don't have internet...
Download all the images with any of the 2 methods mentioned (at home, friends house, internet cafe, etc) and then go to the plugins directory and zip up the whole directory, use a flash drive or portable HD to take the file to the computer that doesn't have internet and unzip to the plugins directory there.
Note: Lackey has to be installed in both computers for this to work.

Or just do like I do: skip the middleman and install Lackey to your thumb drive!  :)
