Title: MTG plugin
Post by: gsman on May 06, 2010, 08:35:57 AM
Some of the images are broken for download(specifically, most of the eventide set). I tried restarting lackey and it didn't download still.

Be specific. What verson of the plugin do you have and give an example of a specific card image that isn't downloading.

I had the medium version. It wasnt working, so I got the High version, and it doesn't work. Almost all of the eventide set doesn't download, how can i be more specific? Just start trying stuff in eventide, it wont take long to find one that doesnt work.

Run autoupdate and relaunch. Everything works for me. Every single card works for me, in high and medium for eventide.
If you still have a problem after a relaunch, post your updatelist.txt, CardImageURLs4.txt, and shadowmoor-eventide.txt files.

It seems a lot of people are having the same issue I am. I hope someone figures it out I want to play on lackey once again.

The high version of the plugin card images have been upgraded. If you are using the high version of the plugin, delete your old plugins/magic/sets/setimages/roe/ folder. That's all you need to do. The new and higher quality card images will download automatically.

I updated my pluggin(medium) and it's working fine now.

This problem of redirected card-image index numbers also exists in the Unglued set.

Update List version: 10-04-26
From: http://www.angelfire.com/funky/magiclackey/high/updatelist.txt

Card example:
Goblin Bookie indexed as card 37, should be 43
Poultrygeist indexed as card 70, should be 37
Blacker Lotus should be 70

It is probable that all the cards have incorrect index numbers.  The main problem appears to be in the /plugins/magic/sets/unsets.txt file.  In that file the card image numbers follow alphabetical order, but on the URL site (http://magiccards.info/scans/en/ug/<#>.jpg) the Collector's Number ordering is used.

Fixed. Medium and High should work perfectly now. Let me know if there are any more errors. Make sure you run autoupdate, and then relaunch lackey for the changes to take effect.

It seems that there are no token-cards (like the Goblin token from Unglued) available from the MTG plugin.  I looked into the files, and finally realized that the problem is likely because http://magiccards.info doesn't appear to have any of those card images.

I like to use those Token cards in the Sideboard, so that I can put them into play with the Red and Green counters on them to show the number of those critters.

As a solution, is it allowed to take the images from http://gatherer.wizards.com ?
If so, then here are the updates (89=Pegasus, Soldier, Zombie, Goblin, Sheep, 94=Squirrel) needed to the Unglued sets:

CardImageURLs4.txt
unglued/89.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=4979&type=card
unglued/90.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=5472&type=card
unglued/91.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=5601&type=card
unglued/92.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=5503&type=card
unglued/93.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=5560&type=card
unglued/94.jpg   http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=5607&type=card

unsets.txt
Name = Pegasus, Soldier, Zombie, Goblin, Sheep, Squirrel
Set = unglued
ImageFile = 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94
Color = W, W, B, R, G, G
Cost = 0
Type = "Creature - " + <Name>

Last i heard lackey doesn't support tokens. I wish i coulduse them, though

The site that hosts the card images tends to be hit and miss, probably because the angelfire service bandwidth throttles it when people are hitting it too hard. It took me a couple weeks to get all the cards downloaded, on each pass availability would change and more often than not downloads were not even possible most of the time.

For this reason I could not imagine playing or deck editing where the card images are downloaded as necessary.

Do you know if the lack of Tokens is the policy of Lackey, or is it just the lack of images on the preferred image website?  If it's just the lack of images, then the updates I recommended work fine (although I guess it's possible that updates to the gather.wizards.com website will change the image URLs).  I could even attach the edited files, but there's not much point if the next mtg plugin auto-update will wipe out my changes.

If it's the policy of Lackey not to support the Token cards, then you could just substitute some cards as tokens.  For example, I've been using Mon's Goblin Raiders (R for a 1/1 goblin with no abilities) as the goblin token card.  Basically just treat Lackey like real-life, where you probably don't have the cards you'd like, so you toss something onto the battlefield and call it a token.

I definitely agree that playing with the tokens is cool.

@Just Mick
It is not the case that the outside website is preventing the Token image downloads for the problem I encountered.  The mtg plugin does not have the information for the Token cards, there is no entry for them in unsets.txt or CardImageURLs4.txt.  When I searched the website normally referenced by those files, the website did not have a scanned copy of the token cards (webpage error 404)

^I think I was more so addressing the original topic creator's post.

It might be helpful if you could pick from a list of cards when spawning a card by right clicking the spawned cards. The MTG plugin could also probably use more zones, like Planechase, Vanguard, and another Extras zone or something for cards not actually part of the 15 card sideboard.

My #1 most wanted addition to the MTG plugin is an artist filter. It's pretty ridiculous with all the stats on each card the artists are missing. I would love to be able to look at all the cards by an artist.

I haven't noticed the duel decks in the MTG plugin yet, but until then I guess you could just make the changes yourself to whatever set you like in the text files, just make sure there's an entry in CardImageURLs.txt for it.  Keep in mind that any updating of the plugin will probably wipe out your changes.

Here's some links to card images.  I was going to do all tokens.... but a search on starcitygames.com returned four pages worth, so apologies if there are a few missing popular ones.  If it looks like tokens are accepted into Lackey, then I'll be glad to collect the remaining images (looks like Starcitygames is the place to get them).

You probably don't want to hand edit your plugins because if your plugin doesn't match your opponent's, A) weird things can happen, and B) whatever changes you're trying to effect will not make sense to your opponent (unless you've both agreed to use doctored files)
Title: Re: MTG plugin
Post by: Brevan on June 15, 2010, 10:44:05 PM
Bah, I just noticed that the card images from Starcitygames.com included a white border with shadow (so they're normal scans but with card-shadows added on a white background).  They'd still be alright, but when you put them on the "table" in Lackey, they seem to have oddly-thick black borders due to the shadow.  Not as classy, so a new image-source is needed before the plugin is modified.

@Just Mick
The only changes I'm suggesting is to add a new card to the plugin.  If your opponent doesn't have that card, then they get an image-placeholder (It's a white "Unknown Card" image I think) that includes the title of the card you see.  With Tokens, this is a pretty nice way to fail, since they still see a card with the word "goblin" (if that what the card is named).  Since tokens don't have much in the way of card-text, there's not much wrong that can happen.

I guess the worst case scenario is if you didn't add new cards, but chose to overwrite old cards.  Then your opponent sees the old card image while you see the new image.  In that case, the dialogue box at the bottom of the screen still shows "Brevan tapped card X" but the image of the card would be of card Y instead of X.  Certainly easy for the opponent to get confused.  This is the same situation that happened recently when the Unglued set was incorrectly showing the Poltygeist card when the Goblin Bookie was selected in the deck editor.

Just saying, when you are done, best thing you can do is to make your changes available for download and hopefully the plugin maintainer will be able to integrate your work into the plugin.

I think there is a lot of value in just having every card face ever produced in the plugin database. I've noticed there is an alternative (original) version of the Garruk planeswalker used on the wizards website not in the plugin. And I know my brother was looking for artwork for the original promotional Path to Exile card which was not in there. So there are probably a lot of other cards (including tokens) not in the plugin excluding foils -- stupid stupid foils. I don't think Vanguard is there for example.

Trevor has explained that tokens will be added in a future version of Lackey as a feature. I don't want to hack token cards added in as regular cards in the interim. For now, a spawned card with a note or counter should work fine. Adding custom images for every token is far more cumbersome and too much trouble than it's worth. Notes work fine.

I'm curious how much work it is managing the MTG plugin.

It's easy to maintain, but I am at the mercy of the content being available. For example, I cannot include Archenemy until there is a text spoiler for it.

M11 has been added to standard...hooray!  However, 2010 does not show up in the "standard" filter.  Officially, magic 2010 does not cycle out until next fall.  Could somebody please address this?  Is it something I can change myself?

If there is a "duplicate target card" action(highlight card(s) and click duplicate, it'll make one copy of target card(s)), then tokens would be easy. Just add a new set to the sets in the construction, hard part is tracking down the pictures. Course i haven't dealt with making a pluggin, to me it looks easy.

if you look at the link provided that the basic of the image downloads but http://magiccards.info/extras.html this is where you would find all tokens.
