Please read this whole post.
As a continuation of the previous post about the new version (http://www.lackeyccg.com/forum/index.php?topic=1925.0), this post is to let people know that I want to make this new version the official version (thus making everyone who uses the server needing to use this new version).
I think it's in a pretty good place right now and is at least as functional as the previous version. There's tons of new stuff which I won't list here. I am mainly concerned that it runs and is at least as functional as the current official version. To wit, I want people to test it and let me know.
Essentially, this is also a warning that if you don't tell me about an error in this version or a reason why I shouldn't make this version official yet, you may be out of luck when I make this version official and some problem comes up with it.
I am particularly interested in these areas:
Does it launch, and run without crashing?
If not, when does it crash? What error does it give you? What operating system are you running?
Is it functional?
Can you properly load a plugin, and perform the associated functions for that plugin, like drawing cards, building a deck, etc.?
Does it perform well?
Are things choppy? Does it freeze or hog the CPU?
Does the keyboard work adequately?
If you are using a non-QWERTY keyboard, things may not work perfectly. In that case, please let me know, and also please tell me if this new version works better, worse, as as well as the currently official version.
Does the networking stuff work?
Can you connect to someone directly without using the server? (Could you do this with the current official version?) Can you connect to the server, and connect to games on the server? Do games seem to play correctly on the server?
How to use this new version:
This version is NOT compatible with the previous version. Until I make this the official version, you will need to connect to the server by IP. To do this, in the server tab, view advanced settings and type in the IP 71.190.135.203 and the port 25712. Then hit the "Connect to server from IP address" button. Also, until I make this version official, you cannot use the lackey updater program. To use this version, just download the linked file, and unzip the folder. You can drag your old plugins to the new folder's plugins folder, and then load the plugin. All your decks and cards images should carry over if you do this. You will need to test your name. Note that in the windows version, it will pop up a debug window. Also, it will log keystrokes you make while its running to 000Debug.txt. This will be removed when it's the official release and is just used to help test some non-QWERTY related keyboard related issues. Just minimize the debug window and ignore those unless I am debugging something with you and request more information.

http://lackeyccg.com/LackeyCCGMacTest.zip
If no one tells me of a reason to not make this the new official version, this will be the new official version of Lackey within the week.
Thank you for helping me test this version. There's a lot of new stuff in this version and I'm looking forward to it going live so plugin makers (and therefore players) can make use of all the new stuff.
UPDATES:Pay attention to the updates that I make here so a bunch of people don't keep reporting the same bugs I have since fixed.
4/24/13, Update: I fixed the bug with the quick search field. And the bug that would cause the game to crash on the mac. I haven't posted the fixes yet. As soon as I fix sound for the windows version, I will post the fix.
4/26/13, Update: I fixed the windows sound bug. I think I also fixed the bug that would cause crashes when you started lackey up with no plugin, or a different plugin. I think I also fixed the bug where the window would cut off certain things, like the menu. Someone reported a bug where the delete key (or backspace) would crash things when editing text, but I haven't been able to reproduce it and I wonder if it still persists in this version.
5/5/13, Update: Fixed the window size cropping bug, the deck editor filter not updating bug, and the port (and other numeric text input fields) bugs.
5/8/13, Update: Fixed the window size cropping bug (for real this time). Fixed a crash that would happen when resizing card images.
5/13/13, Update: Few minor bugs fixed.
5/21/13, Update: Few bugs fixed.
As of the 5/21/13 version, I believe all of the bugs mentioned have been fixed except for the issue with non-QWERTY keyboards. I am considering making this the new official version soon.
I still have keyboard errors like ones reported in the previous version...
See the errors in my last post...

So these are problems that happen with the current official version as well?
I can't connect to the server via IP 71.190.135.203 and the port 25711. Also, the sound functions seem not working. My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit version.

It's 2571
2 for the test lackey.
What do you mean the sound functions aren't working? You mean nothing will cause sounds to play? Is your sound turned on, both within Lackey's preferences and on your computer? What specific sound do you expect to hear but don't? Are the associated sound files in your Lackey's sounds folder?

I can connect to the server using port 25712, but the port in the e-mail is wrong...
I have all the sounds turned on in Lackey and my computer can still play other stored musics, however, all sounds (like draw cards, roll dice) could not function.
I am having problems with the deck creation.
I am using the magic plugin and if I misstype the spelling of the card and press backspace to change a letter it will not allow me to look for the card without clearing the whole field first with the clear button. If I clear it using delete or backspace it still will not allow me to search for a card. Also I cannot click on a card if it is not the first card listed to highlight it to add to my deck, it will not let me highlight it to do so. Could be minor but it can also be annoying during deck creation having to type the name of each card correctly and hope the first card listed is the printed version you want to use in your deck.
Why is there a 'DOS' style window?

What port in what email? I don't know what you're referring to.
I can't open it. I'm on a Mac, 10.8.3 and it gives me this error: "Check with the developer to make sure LackeyCCG works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X.

Can I get any feedback on the deck creation bug?

No, the current version (build date 04-11-12) don't have this problem, but it recognise my keyboard layout as a English but my keyboard layout is Portuguese Brazil ABNT2. I try with another keyboard types like PT-PT and Arabic and same problem.

What port in what email? I don't know what you're referring to.
Those who have forum accounts set up to receive announcements by e-mail were each sent out one such e-mail, which was effectively a carbon copy of the announcment as it was originally posted.
Judging from the fact that the opening post has a edit timestamp, it has been changed since the e-mails were sent out. But this change can't be reflected in the e-mail, so people set to get announcements by e-mail were all accidentally given a typo'd port.
I haven't personally tested the new version, myself. I don't actually play games on Lackey often, so all I need to do is update the plugin I'm in charge of to take advantage of changes.
The new Lackey is crashing whenever I attempt to launch it. The finder offer's the following message, which I've attached.
I'm running Mac OS X, 10.6.8.
Thanks

Yep, same one I get.
So I have connected to the server and that went smooth. The deck creation is still a bit wonky. I can now click the other cards other than the first card but when I search for a card if I try to delete the search by doing anything but "clear" it still does not allow me to run the search for cards.
Also the sounds are not working for me at all, but that maybe something you want on purpose during testing.

The program is crashing for me as well, although I am running a Windows XP.
Command Line opens and reports a string of errors (mostly it can't find files), and Lackey appears on the Taskbar and Task Manager. It creates an empty window, but after a substantial amount of time, nothing happens. A quick look at the Task Manager reveals it's eating up CPU, and holds at about 35,000k memory.
I've attached a copy of the Command Line report.

oops posted the report in the wrong thread... :-\.
Just played a few games with the new version of Lackey (Mac OS X 10.7.5, Lackey 04-21-13). Here are some of my observations:
- If no card image is available, Lackey used to show a text box with the card infos (without checking the "Text" checkbox); this does not work at the moment
- Lackey does not honor keyboard settings and there is no way to switch keyboard layout from qwerty to e.g. qwertz (I tried different fonts to check for missing glyphs)
- If I activate a filter in the deck builder and switch from "contains" to "is" Lackey stops responding to Mouse/Keyboard input - can close the main window though.
- Can't save games nor will Lackey autosave

I fixed that bug with the quick search field.
I don't see what you mean with the clicking on a the field. So you are left clicking a card in the library of cards to select it, and this does nothing unless the card is the first card in the list? I am not able to reproduce that.
The listview of the desk editor run so fucking fast <3
In saturday I will start a custom skin.
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Graphics: ATI Catalyst Controls, 5800 series
When Lackey starts for the first time, the top of the window is outside my screen making me unable to move the window or even change tabs with the mouse, I managed to move the window with my keyboard and continued.
After loading a plugin from file for the first time, right after starting Lackey for the first time, the top of the contents inside the window was chopped off, resizing the window fixes this.
Then I noticed that the playing field wasn't entirely visible, so I pressed the + button to expand (even though it was already expanded?) the top popout menu to fix that, and then I noticed the bottom popout menu was also already expanded even though the button was looking like it a + as well.
These errors are not recreatable without reinstalling the test version of Lackey.

Not sure what you mean by fast exactly.
If you make a cool custom skin, let me know. The current one looks pretty weak and was just a proof of concept. All the code should be working but I am missing good image components.

Not sure what you mean by fast exactly.
He means that the card being displayed in the deck editor updates at a much higher rate than previously, especially when you whip your mouse up or down the list of cards. And as a matter of fact, the entire program seems a lot more responsive and "faster" than before.
I know this because I experienced the same thing.
Can you add "tiled backgrounds" support?
Would be nice to see.
Lackey crashes at startup if you remove the last used plugin (the one it opens on startup).
Lackey also locks up (it doesn't crash and windows doesn't say it's not responding, also the dropdown selections still highlight when I mouse over them) when I try to change a type of search filter like "Name contains" to another that is below the original type like "Text contains".

When I set a filter, it adjusts the card results, and when I uncheck the box, it removes the filter. This is good.
However, rechecking the box doesn't adjust the results. I experimented a bit more and found that the editor only reapplies filters if:
(a) The filter is retyped.
or
(b) A filter below it in the list becomes unchecked.

This should now be fixed in the 5/5/13 version. Please confirm.

Just played a few games with the new version of Lackey (Mac OS X 10.7.5, Lackey 04-21-13). Here are some of my observations:
- If no card image is available, Lackey used to show a text box with the card infos (without checking the "Text" checkbox); this does not work at the moment
I will put that back.
This is now back in with the 5/5/13 version.
As of the 5/5/13 version, the filter functions in the deck editor seem to be working great.
I came across another oddity in this most recent windows version:
If the card display window (Top left corner) is larger than the image size and you have scaling turned off in preferences, when you place your mouse over the image, message log display, or deck editor library window (Lower field), the image scales.
If the card display window is smaller than the image size, and you do the above, the image pops out of the window to a scale of 1.
In either case, it also appears over message windows, such as the "change stat" or "set filter" windows.
This only occurs if the card image is not the card back image.

That mouseover behaviour is intended, if I understand you correctly. This allows you to make the card viewer area small, but when you mouse over the card, you can see the card at large size. The larger card image should only appear when you mouse over the actual card, so you dont just cover up the interface with the large card at all times. That is to say, you will cover up the interface, but this should happen only when you are mousing over a card. And this doesn't happen if its just the card back image. This is the intended behavior. Do you find this behavior to be wrong?

...the top of the contents inside the window was chopped off, resizing the window fixes this.
This happened again after closing Lackey, removing the plugin it last used (Magic), restarting Lackey, and then loading a different recently used plugin (War3000).

Then I noticed that the playing field wasn't entirely visible, so I pressed the + button to expand the top popout menu (even though it was already expanded?) to fix that, and then I noticed the bottom popout menu was also already expanded even though the button was looking like it a + as well.
This also happened again, immediately after I resized the window to fix the previous bug.
My thoughts are that Lackey automatically resizes the window but doesn't update the contents of the window, like when you manually resize the window, when it does this.
These should both be fixed with the 5/5/13 version. Please confirm.
No change, still not fixed.

I understand a little better now why this happens, and was unaware that this feature was on purpose. However, I think there may be a few errors associated with this.
My concern is that when you have scaling off in preferences, it scales
up to fill the viewer, which is just sort of odd. If you notice in my post, I mentioned that this also happens when you mouse over the message log on the main game screen, which seems unusual. I've linked Screenshots 1 & 2 to demonstrate both of these effects. This isn't so much an error, just a conflict with player preferences.
With the mouse somewhere in the window: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13896483/Screenshot%201.bmp (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13896483/Screenshot%201.bmp)

Also, when the card image pops out of the viewer or scales, it also covers messages. This would seem like a good thing, especially if you wanted to view the card while working with a message window. However, as Screenshot 3 demonstrates, it can also interfere when you are just trying to manipulate the message window.
Trying to change a stat: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13896483/Screenshot%203.bmp (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13896483/Screenshot%203.bmp)
Since this is a desired feature, I'm not really sure what changes should be made or not. I'd simply like to highlight these side effects in case they were not intended.
Keep up the good work on the new version!

It scales up when there is empty space (even when scaling isn't selected in the preferences) because I thought it would worse for people to have a bunch of empty space if for some reason they had inconsistently sized card images. I think a large amount of empty space (where you could fill with the card's image) would be worse in most people's opinion. On the one hand, it might be nice to more fully honor player preferences. On the other hand, I think there would be far more people who (perhaps ignorant of the preferences) would think it weird to have a bunch of empty space.
I get your point about screenshot 3 and I agree with you. Again, this should only happen when the cursor is over a card (or a card's name in the log) so it should be easy to stop it from doing that (by moving your cursor), but I agree that when it covers up pop up windows that it's too weird.
I'm glad I could be of use. Thanks for listening to my concerns.
After messing around with the interface a little more, I found a fatal error:
- Have a card image displayed in the card viewer, other than a card back image.
- Drag the bar that adjusts the size of the card viewer's width all the way to the left.
- The following error message will appear:
- The program then closes.
I hope this helps!

5/8/13, Update: Fixed the window size cropping bug (for real this time). Fixed a crash that would happen when resizing card images.
Just noticed in the 5/8/13 version:
In War3000, the Turn/Phase window has a texture as a background (asides from the cat). If you load a different plugin, and then reload War3000, the texture does not return (though the cat does), it is simply a brown fill. Perhaps loading a plugin does not check that texture?

Edit:
The general problem is when you try to enter two 'things' in the Textbox(number/dash/dot/backspace/clipboard content).
Clipboard content:
aaaaa aaaaa aaaaa ...
1aaaa 1aaaa
11aaa 11aaa
aa1aa aa1aa
I think that backspace is considered a char:
backspace backspace
1aaaa backspace
backspace 1aaaa

I really want to push the current version to be official within a few days.
This doesn't really have anything to do with the new version.
I have the original, and the new version.
I can't get on to the serve to play, on either version.
It gives me an error whenever I try.
Is there something going on with the servers right now or am I the only person this is happening to?
Let me know how I can fix this if it indeed is just an issue on my end.

Any chance to have the old filter setup instead of having the pop-up box?

Both servers were down while I was testing something. they are both up now.
hey either i'm being slow or i can't find the plugin finder, just hte load plugin by url thing. (which is annoying considering i have to manually type it in)
is it coming back, or am i just not seeing the app.
Getting "ID_INCOMPATIBLE_PROTOCOL_VERSION" when trying to connect to server. If I click connect again, I get a pop-up saying I'm already connected. Moments later, my connection is severed.
Server seems to be up and running. I noticed that if I clicked "connect to server" I get the same error mardigan did, but if you read the instructions on how to connect to the new client, it works just fine.
It's because the current "official" server is using the old stable version. The version everyone's testing at present needs to use the connection method outlined in the first post until this because "official".

I'd appreciate it if this person were to talk to me in skype or AIM or some other IM client so I could investigate it with him.
For the past hour and a half, I've been disconnected from both the old client and new client about 30 seconds after I log on everytime I connect. There's only 3 people on the new server and no games, but I'm still getting the "are you still connected? For Realz?!?" message within a minute or connecting.
I am looking for some windows user to test the new lackey. (I haven't posted the mac version yet.)
Please download the new windows version of lackey, connect to the server, and run the "do I need proxy server to host" test. Please let me know what it tells you.
There was some crazy lag on the field to enter the server ip address.
Every other application running was responding fine, but it took me about 2 minutes to type the address into the field.
Once I got it though, I connected fine. I'm the only player so nothing happened.
I need to go read through the previous posts though to see what's going on with plugins. I was able to copy my old magic plugin folder but I couldn't download or create one. I assume that's user error as I didn't really investigate, I simply unzipped, opened and went to preferences but from there no joy.

That means you are probably using the wrong port number and connecting to the OLD server. Either that, or you arent using the new dlls.

Right. In other words, if you dont use the server and just have someone directly connect to your IP when you host, if they CAN connect, it means you don't need to use the proxy server to host when you are connected to the server.
I'm always willing to help! After testing (found under "Host Game" for those stumped like I was for a while), I had to allow my Windows Firewall to let it through. Then:
"Test Result: You cannot host games without the proxy server."
"The proxy need test completed and you need to use the proxy server to host with your current network settings."
When I checked it to "Override", when I tried to click "Host Game" nothing happened, not even closing the window.
Hi,
I did some tests yesterday with Lackey and just register to post the results here.
Thanks for this great tool!
Tests: 06.03.2013
My OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP 1
My HW: Asus Laptop, German keyboard
LackeyCCG Build date 05.28.2013
Downloaded and extracted without issues. Extracted in D:\, LackeyCCG open by double-click over LackeyCCG.exe
Test 1) Host games without proxy
Test execution:
1. Open LackeyCCG
2. Connect to server
3. Allow connections over firewall
4. Check the answer to the action "Test if you can host without proxy"
Testresult:
Testrun 1:
Issue: cannot connect to default Server
Solution: Use "advanced server settings" to change the server IP Address (71.190.135.203). Then, it worked
Testrun 2:
Issue: "Test if you can host without proxy". After running the test with the result that "no possible to host games without proxy", the option to run the test again is disabled. Closing the dialog and changing to other tabs does not bring anything; I cannot run the test again
Solution: Close LackeyCCG and open it again.
Testrun 3:
Issue: Still, cannot host games without proxy.
Action: Change my router configuration and activate port-forwarding for TCP Protocol and port 25710, to my computer IP and port number 25710
Result: No success
Testrun 4:
Action: Same for Protocol UDP
Result: It worked! Now, I could host games without proxy
Test 2) Old version of LackeyCCG did not handle correctly input from a german keyboard. Check it with the new Lackey
Test execution:
1. Open LackeyCCG
2. Set the cursor in an input control (edit box)
3. Type all keyboard keys: without modifier, with "shift" pressed and with "Alt Gr" pressed
Testrun:
ASCII-128 Alphanumerical Letters are handled correctly (german keyboard is NOT qwerty)
Issue: Many other keys do not work correctly.
Symptoms:
- Letters with "umlauts" (?, ? and ?) appear as white-spaces
- The symbols in the number keys are wrong. They should be:
Number row: ^ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 ? ?
With shift: ? ! " ? $ % & / ( ) = ? `
With altgr: ? ? { [ ] } \
And they are:
Number row: ^ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
With shift: ^ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( )
With altgr:
Additional "shift" combinations that do not work (show other keys)
key should is
#+shift ' #
<+shift > <
Additional altgr chars that do not work (show a white spaces):
Key altgr
q @
e ?
m ?
< |
Issue: Copy - Paste does not work
Symptoms:
- Select a text and press Crtl-C -> Text is NOT copied in the clipboard
- Select a text and press Ctrl-Insr -> Text is NOT copied in the clipboard
Hey Trevor, just letting you know I forums PM'd you his skype info. (I dunno if you saw it, should I email you instead?)
I tried the Windows version 05-28-13 with different plugins. I can install plugins without any problems but as soon as I try to load one of my installed plugins Lackey crashes (different versions of the startek1e, startrek2e and tribbles plugins with different encodings just to be sure).
Is there anything plugin builders should consider to get their plugins working again?

I can install the plugin without any problems but whenever I call the plugin lackey crashes (but does write the plugin as PLUGINNAME0 in Preferences.txt so that Lackey will crash from that point onwards whenever it starts until that reference is deleted).
Perhaps the plugin does contain some outdated files or some files in unsupported places that were tolerated by the old versions but causes the new one to crash.

I haven't been able to get it to crash with your plugin.
I can replicate it very easily:
- Clean install of Lackey on a Windows XP system or a Windows 7 system (either 32 or 64bit).
- I can start then Lackey without any problems.
- After that enter necessary information (like name ea.) Go to Preferences - Plugins, enter the autoupdate address to install any of those three plugins. Wait until installation has concluded.
- Then select the newly installed plugin (using "Browse installed plugins to load one" either after restart of Lackey or immediately) -> Lackey crashes
- Open Lackey again -> Lackey crashes each time until I delete the Preferences.
Connecting to the server the way you instructed in the original post is not working. The only message I get is there is an error connecting to the server.
I'm making this the official version today.
I will be closely monitoring it and what I imagine will be many bug reports. Over the next few days, perhaps even weeks, I will try to fix all of those issues. Please bear with me during this hopefully short time.
Please post further bug reports in the new post: http://www.lackeyccg.com/forum/index.php?topic=2050.msg15448#msg15448
